NEWS: Great Malvern Festival of Stories set to return with a fun packed programme

Families across Worcestershire and beyond are invited to step into a world of imagination this October as the Great Malvern Festival of Stories for Children returns.

Taking place from 19–31 October 2026, the festival will be held across a number of venues throughout Great Malvern.

The event, now in its fourth year, is delivered through a partnership between Malvern Hills District Council, Boffy Arts Events People, and Malvern Theatres.

Bringing together professional storytellers, children’s authors, puppetry, theatre, creative workshops and interactive experiences, the festival celebrates the power of stories to entertain, inspire and bring families together.

The first four days of this year's programme will be aimed at local schools, followed by a family programme for the remaining dates which take place over half term.

Festival highlights include:

  • The Boy Who Read Aloud to the Sea – a visually inventive production combining shadow theatre, storytelling and puppetry.
  • Circus Skills Workshop – a fun, hands-on opportunity for children to learn and develop circus skills.
  • Make A Mark Art Morning – a creative session encouraging children to explore their imagination through art.
  • A Cup Puppets Workshop – children aged 6–13 can create their own character puppets and bring them to life.
  • Spooky Stories with Cat Weatherill – acclaimed storyteller Cat Weatherill brings a collection of spooky tales to the festival.
  • Far Ago! with Daniel Morden – the renowned storyteller draws on decades of experience collecting and performing traditional stories from around the world.

Cllr Daniel Walton, Portfolio Holder for Economy and Tourism at Malvern Hills District Council, said: "Once again, we have a stupendous programme of stories, theatre, puppetry and creative activities lined up for children and families this October. The event is a wonderful celebration of imagination and creativity, giving young people the chance to discover new stories, meet inspiring performers and, most importantly, have fun.”

The festival includes both ticketed and free events open to everyone, visit www.visitthemalverns.org/storyfest for more information.
