Campaign to help young people build life skills

A new campaign will be launched next month, which aims to encourage young people across the Malvern Hills District to gain valuable life skills.

Malvern Hills District Council has partnered with Malvern Youth Advisory Network to deliver 'Futureproof' which will run from 13 to 26 July.

The campaign is being championed by the council's new Youth Chair and Advisors and is aimed at 11 to 17-year-olds. It will encourage young people to build resilience and feel part of the community, as well as help them gain valuable life skills.

A range of different topics will be covered from budgeting and mindfulness to coping with exam stress and cooking healthy meals.

Futureproof will be promoted on a new webpage, as well as through videos, posts and activities on social media.

People can follow the campaign on Twitter (@MalvernHills_DC), Facebook (@MalvernHillsUK) and Instagram (@malvernhillsdistrictcouncil) and share content using #MHFutureproof.

Cllr Tom Wells, Portfolio Holder for Community Services on Malvern Hills District Council, said: "We are so excited for the launch of the first ever Furtureproof campaign which promises to be a jam-packed fortnight of informative videos, advice and fun activities to improve wellbeing and build skills. It is so important that young people access the support they need and build resilience so they can thrive now and in the future".

Futureproof is being launched in response to the council's Bigger Picture Survey, which was completed by over 1,200 11 to 18-year-olds across the district in 2018.

The survey asked what living, working and studying in the district was like. Preparing for life after school, learning important life skills, dealing with stress and feeling a part of their local community were the top issues highlighted by young people.
