Time running out to apply for EU Settlement Scheme

EU citizens living in the district are being reminded time is running out to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) if they want to remain lawfully in the UK.

All EU, European Economic Area and Swiss citizens, and their family members, living in the UK before December 31 2020 must apply to the EUSS by 30 June 2021.

Children, including new-born babies, need an application made for them unless they are born British.

Those who apply to the scheme will be given settled or pre-settled status depending on how long someone has lived in the country. Both settled and pre-settled status allows people to live and work in the UK and continue to use the NHS.

Government figures show between 28 August 2018 and 31 March 2021, 1,140 applications to the EUSS were received from Malvern Hills District residents with 1,360 being given settled or pre-settled status.

Cllr Sarah Rouse, Leader of Malvern Hills District Council, said: "Time is running out to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme so if this affects you, please do not delay and apply now. If you have family, friends, colleagues or neighbours who are EU citizens please check and make sure they are aware of what they need to do."
