Get set for Upton's Day of Jazz

A free day of Jazz is all set to swing into action when it arrives in Upton upon Severn next weekend.

Upton's Day of Jazz will be held on Saturday 2 October 2021 from 11.30am to 11pm.

The event takes place after the town faced two Jazz Festival cancellations due to the Coronavirus outbreak, giving the opportunity for something new and different.

Jazz music will be playing in several venues in and around the town, some with open air space. Venues include Bar 7, Mojitos, The Boathouse, and The Kings Head, The Swan Hotel will also host a Jazz Fringe event, all with free entry.

An eclectic lineup of bands include the popular Worcester Youth Jazz Orchestra directed by Ian Hattersley, Mike Owen/Sarah Spencer's Storyville Six, Hot Fingers featuring Thomas 'Spats'Langham, Cadillac Express, LeSwing, Sundown Jazz Society, A Touch of Jazz, and many more.

Bands will be playing a mixture of Jazz, Jump Jive and Swing and some Rock and Roll favourites.

The event is supported by Malvern Hills District Council as part of their town recovery and events programme. It is part funded by the European Regional Development 'Welcome Back' Fund, Upton Town Council, and County Councillor Martin Allen.

The Fringe Event is supported by partners Balens of Malvern, the Upton Co-op Community Fund, and charity friends The Nathan Tomkins Trust, working hard to address mental health issues in the community.

Cllr Daniel Walton, Portfolio Holder for Tourism and Economic Development at Malvern Hills District Council, said: "We are really proud to be supporting this event and look forward to seeing the town packed with both residents and visitors enjoying the free music and great atmosphere. We have provided £2,500 from the ERDF Welcome Back Fund which enables entry to be free to all venues, and will also help to encourage footfall into the town."

Donations are welcomed on the day to secure the future of the 35th Annual Upton Jazz Festival. Collections on the day will benefit local charities.
