Cash boost for high street traders

There's still time for independent businesses to get a cash boost to help their Covid-19 recovery with Malvern Hills District Council's Town Centre Support Scheme.

Traders in any of the district's five retail centres – Great Malvern, Malvern Link including Link Top, Barnards Green, Upton and Tenbury – can apply for the grant.

Funding is on offer to pay for shop front improvements and security measures such as CCTV.

The building that accommodates the new Stitchery shop in Upton on Severn has already benefitted from the grant with front improvements.

Altogether 16 businesses have had their applications approved in the first round of funding, with 9 businesses already receiving grants.

The council will pay up to £1,500 for a project with the business expected to match fund.

The scheme is part of the council's £500,000 economic recovery fund created to support the local economy as it recovers from the impact of Covid-19 restrictions.

Cllr Daniel Walton, Portfolio Holder for Economy and Tourism on Malvern Hills District Council, said: "This grant has been a great success so far with so many businesses applying, the money is a really good opportunity for our independent traders to improve their shop fronts and security measures. It is also important to ensure we keep supporting the local economy."

Freya Angharad, Owner of PlanCopy & Print Services Ltd in Malvern Link said: "The town centre support scheme grant allowed us to update our existing shop front windows to be much more energy efficient, secure and has made a positive visual impact on the outward appearance of the shop. I am extremely grateful for this grant and hope many others will take the opportunity and apply for it."
