Colourful rainbow benches installed ahead of Malvern Pride event

Two rainbow benches have been permanently installed in Great Malvern ahead of the upcoming Malvern Pride event.

The benches, which are situated in Priory Park Great Malvern, are a result of a project led by the Malvern Pride Committee and funded by Malvern Hills District Council.

They are a symbol of diversity and inclusion for all communities within the Malvern Hills District, and have been powder coated so they will last for many years to come.

The free Malvern Pride event take places in Priory Park on Saturday 30 July, from 12pm until 6pm, with stalls, refreshments, family-friendly activities, arts, crafts and entertainment.

The event is a celebration of people coming together, and is about acceptance, having fun, and being proud of who you are.

The Malvern Pride Committee were formed three years ago to plan and organise Malvern Pride events. The first event took place in 2019 where it was attended by hundreds of people of all ages.

Cllr Peter Whatley, Portfolio Holder for Resources at Malvern Hills District Council, said: "We are really pleased with the benches, which are much more than just a colourful seat, they are a visible statement of inclusion for everyone in our community to recognise."

Mary Marsh, from Malvern Pride said: "Pride aims to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and the Pride benches help demonstrate that we are promoting a sense of inclusivity and equality within the area. All will be very welcome at the Pride event, which aims to be a celebration of our little town's diversity, inclusivity and general quirkiness, please come and join us".
