Councillors vote to freeze Malvern Hills District Council’s (MHDC) share of Council Tax for another year.
At an Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday, councillors recommended to keep the district council’s element of the Council Tax bill the same for 2026/27.
Each year, MHDC is required to formally approve the Council Tax and from the bill, the council takes around 8 pence in every pound.
This portion goes towards district council services, including waste and recycling collections, planning services, business support, housing, parks, public toilets, leisure centres, Malvern Theatres and more.
The rest of the bill goes to Worcestershire County Council, West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and Town and Parish Councils. Unlike MHDC, for the major preceptors, these elements are set to rise by more than inflation for the year ahead.
MHDC has also committed to investing £2 million into council priorities- Health and Wellbeing, Economy, and Environment- as well as over £1.3 million to deliver a household food waste collection service across the district.
Cllr John Gallagher, Leader and Portfolio Holder for Resources at MHDC, said: “Freezing our share of Council Tax shows our commitment to our residents, as well as an investment into our services and the support we provide to our communities and businesses. Our Council Tax is the second lowest in the county and we want to maintain that.”
