Legal duty to dispose of business waste correctly
If you run a business, no matter what the size, then you are legally responsible for the waste you produce. You must make sure you do the following:
- Keep your waste to a minimum by doing everything you can to prevent, reuse, recycle or recover waste
- Store your waste safely and securely
- Arrange to have your waste taken away by us or another registered waste carrier
If you run a business from home you must have a separate waste collection, you cannot put business waste in your household bin.
You must pay for your business waste collection separately. It is not included as part of Business Rates.
If you do not dispose of your waste properly you could be prosecuted under the Control of Pollution Act 1974 and the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Our Commercial Waste and Recycling Collection Services
We have dedicated Commercial Waste and Commercial Recycling services.
Our service will also help improve your company's environmental credentials as waste we collect from you is burnt to generate electricity at an Energy from Waste Plant and recycling is sent for reprocessing, with the majority staying in the UK.
The benefits of using our service include:
- A range of bin sizes and sacks to choose from
- Flexible collections
- Easy payment by direct debit each quarter
- No hidden charges – the price we quote is the price you pay
- Legal and safe disposal offering peace of mind
- Reliable and friendly service
- No VAT
- The option for one-off extra collections if needed for an additional cost
We offer the option to have a separate recycling bin to help manage your waste more effectively.
You can recycle everything in a business waste bin that you can in your household bin including plastic bottles, tubs, pots, trays, food and drink cans, cardboard, glass bottles and jars and paper.

Using another waste carrier to collect your waste
You do not have to use our Commercial Waste collection service. You can use another company as long as they are a registered waste carrier. Make sure you use a reputable company and keep invoices and Waste Transfer Notes as proof you did everything you could to dispose of your waste properly.
