Information about legally protected trees

Some trees are legally protected. Broadly speaking, trees can be protected by Tree Preservation Order or through being in a conservation area. To find out more about legally protected trees, please have a look at the following guidance:

Is my tree legally protected?

Find out if your tree is in a conservation area or if there any Tree Preservation Orders by following this link:

Check if my tree has a Tree Preservation Order

Please double check this information by clicking on the map button at the top of the page.

Look for Tree Preservation Orders and conservation areas under “property related information.

You will need to select the box next to both Tree Preservation Orders and conservation areas to make them show up on the map.

If you have found a Tree Preservation Order on the map, and you want to look at a copy of the document, click on the “i” information button at the top of the screen, then on the shaded area on the map showing the TPO. This will provide a link to the TPO document.

If you already know the reference number of the Tree Preservation Order you are interested in, and you want to see a copy of the Tree Preservation Order document you can use the council’s planning application search facility.

Type in the number of the Order and click search. When you get to the search results, click the TPOs button at the top right of the screen.
